The Study Centre of the Canadian Centre for Architecture announces its 2004-2005 Visiting Scholars Program

Montréal, 4 July 2003. The Study Centre of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) announces its 2004-2005 Visiting Scholars Program. The Program welcomes applications from scholars and architects conducting research at post-doctoral or more advanced academic levels.

Scholars should submit a research proposal in any area of architectural history, theory, or criticism that takes into account the mandate of the Program and the scope of the CCA's library and collections. Applications must be received by the Study Centre no later than 1 November 2003. Candidates will be selected on the recommendation of an international jury of eminent scholars and architects. A description of the Program and all relevant documentation will be sent upon request or may be downloaded from the Study Centre web page (www.cca.qc.ca/studium).

Inaugurated in September 1997, the CCA's Study Centre is an international institute devoted to advanced research on various aspects of architectural thought. The Study Centre enables scholars to pursue a wide variety of research in architecture and related disciplines. In a setting uniquely conducive to study, the CCA provides resident scholars with the outstanding resources of its collections and library, adequate stipends and administrative and research support. The Study Centre aims at fostering scientific exchange, theoretical debate and the emergence of innovative ideas. In this regard, it offers an integrated program of seminars, lectures, and other research activities intended to create and maintain, at the CCA and in the entire Montreal region, a forum of exchange for visiting researchers and the academic and intellectual communities. Each year, the Study Centre welcomes a dozen scholars coming from the Americas, Europe and other regions of the world to pursue their individual research during a stay of from three to eight months.

The CCA's library houses an international research collection on architectural history and the built environment. It contains more than 200,000 volumes, with notable holdings of rare books and special collections dealing with the theory, practice, and history of architecture from the fifteenth century to the present. It also includes over 1,500 current serial subscriptions, more than 3,000 retrospective periodical titles, and various special documents. In addition to the resources of the library, the CCA's collections of prints and drawings, photographs, and archives offer scholars and specialists a wealth of primary and secondary material pertaining to the history, theory, and practice of architecture.

The Canadian Centre for Architecture is an international research centre and museum founded on the conviction that architecture is a public concern. Based on its extensive collections, CCA is a leading voice in advancing knowledge, promoting public understanding, and widening thought and debate on the art of architecture, its history, theory, practice, and role in society today.

The CCA gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Department of Canadian Heritage, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
